What is a Reverse Osmosis plant?
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a special type of filtration that uses pressure and a semi-permeable, thin membrane with pores small enough to pass pure water through while rejecting larger molecules such as dissolved salts (ions) and other impurities such as bacteria. RO produces highly purified de-mineralized water for industrial use, and become mineralized for use as potable drinking water.
What are the benefits of Reverse Osmosis?
RO has become the method of choice for generating water when a steady stream of waste heat (steam) is not available for flash distillation. RO plants cost less to build, are modular, small in size and more energy efficient.
What is the GreenTech Energy RO upgrade?
GreenTech Energy has identified opportunities to reduce capital expenditures and operating expenses in the marine RO market. The GreenTech Energy solution recycles the brine discharge from the first bank of membranes with unfiltered seawater from a makeup booster pump to dilute overall salinity before entering a new second membrane array. GreenTech Energy can retrofit a second array of membrane filters to capture the remaining fresh water from the brine recycle. Further efficiency is achieved by installing an Energy Recovery Device (ERV) prior to final discharge overboard.
